Krishna Pushkaralu Logo Launched In Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu released a logo for Krishna Pushkarams at CM office in Vijayawada on Saturday. Krishna River, also referred to universally as 'Krishnaveni' is the fourth biggest river in terms of water inflows and river basin area in India, after the Ganges, Godavari and Brahmaputra. 

The logo reflected the river in flow and a devotee offering prayers, depicting the relationship between the river and people. The logo also depicts the speed, direction and flow of the river.

The Krishna Pushkaralu are planned based on the transit of Jupiter into Virgo. This year the pushkaralu will commence form 12th August 2016. The main pushkaralu will be organised for a total of 12 days and will end on 23rd August 2016.

Government of Andhra Pradesh has made some special arrangements during the last Krishna Pushkaralu which took place in the year 2004. As this is a festival which occurs for once in 12 years Government of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are planning heavy preparations so as to reduce the rush of pilgrims. As this holy festival Krishna Pushkaralu occurs only once in 12 years around 4-5 cores of people are expected to visit this pushkaralu from all over the India. Everyone has a belief that whoever visits the Krishna Pushkaram must take a holy dip in the river Krishna which improves their Physical and mental abilities.

Bhavani Island is a river island that offers a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. It is a place to rest, relax and enjoy oneself with its mangroves, well-manicured gardens, pristine woodlands, rolling meadows and shimmering water bodies. Bhavani Island is a popular picnic spot, where children can run around carefree while adults can enjoy the energising and refreshing ambience. Situated in Krishna River, the island is quite close to Prakasam Barrage. There are great boating facilities, which allow visitors to explore the river. The swimming pools on the island are well-maintained and clean. Visitors, who do not want to spend time in the pools, can opt for other watersports or try their hand at fishing and angling.

It is located at a distance of 4 km from Vijayawada city. The island is situated upstream of River Krishna, close to the Prakasam Barrage and is perhaps the largest island on a river, with an area of about 133acres. The placid waters make it an ideal picnic spot, besides there is extensive forest coverage, shimmering ponds and rolling meadows. Boat riding facility is also available here.

Kanaka Durga Temple Vijayawada

Kanaka Durga Temple is located on the Indrakeeladri hill, on the banks of Krishna River in Vijayawada in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh State, India. It is also known as "Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam". Sri Kanakadurgamma (kanaka durga) is swayambu(self-manifested). It is one of the largest temples in India and 2nd largest temple in Andhra Pradesh Temple commonly called as Vijayawada Kanaka Durgamma Temple.

About Kanakadurga Temple:
Kaalika puraana, Durgaa sapthashati and other vedic literature have mentioned about Goddess Kanaka Durga on the Indrakeelaadri and have described the deity as Swayambhu, (self-manifested) in Triteeya kalpa. 


Devotees in huge numbers visit the temple of Kanaka Durga Temple in Vijayawada during a special festival. Durga Navratri at Kanakadurga temple of Vijayawada is a grand festival for the temple. Dasara Sharan Navaratri Utsavalu startswith Dasara (Vijaya Dashami). With Kalasha Sthapana Pooja, celebrations will start at the temple. On Padyami, the first day of Navarathri, Goddess Durga is decorated in Sri Swarnakavacha alankrita Durga. On concluding day, Vijaya Dashami, Durga is worshiped in Sri Rajarajeshwari Devi Alankaram.

Vijayawada Kanaka Durga is very famous in Andhra pradesh. The temple of Maa Kanaka Durga is next to only the temple of Lord Venkateswara swamy in attracting devotees. She is considered as Shaktipeetham. But, there is no reference to her in "Ashtadasa Shakti peetha stotram". A calender is sold in Kanaka durga temple, keeping her at the center of all 18 Shakti peethas.

By Road: APSRTC runs Number of busses from major cities to Vijayawada. 
By Rail: There are number of trains to Vijayawada from within Andhra Pradesh and from other states as well.
By Air: The domestic airport located at Gannavaram, about 20-km, from the city connects Vijayawada to Hyderabad and Vishakhapatnam. It’s about a 30-minute flight from Hyderabad.

The temple is good to visit during Chaitra Shuddha Pournami, when Vasanta Kalyanam is performed to Goddess Durga and Lord Malleshwara. The Brahmotsavams in the temple are performed in Vasanta Ritu and the kalyana performed during the utsavams is known as Vasanta Kalyana.

Gandhi Hill, Vijayawada

The Gandhi Hill is one of the popular attractions in Vijayawada and is also known as the Gandhi Stupa features a mammoth Gandhi statue 16 mts tall that was unveiled by the then President of India Dr. Zakir Hussain on 6th October 1968. The hill also features seven stupas that are almost 150 mts tall. 

The Gandhi Hill is named after the father of our nation Mahatma Gandhi. It was earlier known as the ORR Hill. This is the first Gandhi Memorial with a huge stupa dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. Along with this there are 6 other subsidiary shrines that are dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi as well. The memorial is perched on the hill top which is about 500 ft above the main city of Vijayawada. The walls are beautifully inscribed with the teachings of the great man, Mahatma Gandhi.

This apart, there is a well-stocked library that houses a large collection of books, a planetarium as well as the Light and Sound show that portrays the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. 

The Gandhi hill offers a spectacular view of the city of Vijayawada, and you may also enjoy a toy train ride as well.

How to Reach:
It is near to Pandit Nehru Bus Stand (PNBS) which is a interstate bus terminal in vijayawada. It is hardly 1 KM away from Vijayawada Railway Station which is major hub of south central railway. One can conveniently reach this ghat. One of the other reasons for heavy flow to this Durga Ghat is its proximity to Inter State Bus stand which is walk able distance from here.

The Kanaka Durga temple management is gearing up for the event of pushkars by planning from now itself. This ghat already have facilities for Kesakandanasalas with sufficient barbers provided by Devasthanam.
