Mogalarajpuram caves are right in the middle of the city of Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh, India and are said to be excavated around 5th century CE. It is a very old mughal monument and specially Caves carved in the Hill rocks. Vijayawada archaeological department is maintaining the place.
It has five rock cut sanctuaries dating back to the 5th century AD. The idols of Lord Nataraja, Ganesh in one cave are still in good condition among the worn images of deities. Cave 2 shows an overhanging cornice with artificial windows. This Mogalarajapuram temple has an Ardhanarisvara statue which is thought to be the earliest in South India.
The caves are about 7- 8 kms from the vijayawada city. These caves are accessible by public transport from various locations in Vijayawada. During the krishna pushkaralu this is one of the places to visit in vijayawada.
